Here are some tips to help you start planning your goals for 2022.

Today I want to talk about planning for 2022. It’s that time of year again where we start to think about our plans for the future. What do you want to accomplish next year, and how do you hold yourself accountable? I want to give you my tips to make sure you accomplish your goals.

The first question you should consider is when you should start planning. I used to wait until October or even November before I thought about the next year; however, this is too long to wait. A business coach once told me that 2022’s business cycle truly begins on October 1, 2022. That’s why September is the best time to plan.

The next thing to consider is what to focus on. For 2022, I want to focus on mindsets. One thing I’ve noticed from talking to business coaches is that they are hyper-focused on developing great business mindsets. For example, if you are a $5 million producer, you need to start thinking like a $10 million producer. This doesn’t mean you have to hit $10 million or you’ll be a failure. Instead, mindset changes are about improving yourself a little bit every day.

Focusing on systems and models is also one of our biggest goals in 2022. This year, we really want to drive home a system called the 12-week year. For example, let’s say you want to sell 40 homes a year. In my personal experience, people tend to work extra hard at the beginning of the year and slow down as things move along. Instead, we want to focus on small chunks of time. So instead of 40 homes in a year, you should focus on selling 10 homes every 12 weeks. By the end of the year, you will hit your 40-home goal.

“ Mindset changes are about improving yourself a little bit every day.”

This system also allows for more flexibility, so if the market changes or something happens in your personal life, it’s easy to change. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being better and adjusting. It’s like if a football team is way behind at halftime. They don’t keep doing what they were doing before; they adjust and try to make a comeback. You should view your real estate career the same way.

The final thing I want to leave you with is that you should take this time to consider your goals beyond 2022 as well. What is the ultimate goal of your career? What can you do next year to reach it? It’s a lot to consider, but there’s never been a better time to think about the rest of your life.
